A stunning 4/3 pendant lamp designed by Poul Henningsen and made by Louis Poulsen.
A very rare example made in the 1930's with a Brass body and a Bakelite ceiling rose. The beautiful opalescent glass shades are replacements from the original manufacturer. The wiring and lampholder have been renewed to meet modern requirements.
The lamp is a member of the PH 3 shade family which was originally developed in 1925-26 for the Forum exhibition hall in Copenhagen. Based on the principle of a reflecting multi-shade system (the uppermost of which is 40cm in diameter), creating a harmonious and glare free illumination. The handblown opal glass shades are sandblasted on the underside for uniform light distribution.
This amazing lamp shows both Poul Henningsen's scientific approach to lighting along with his unique eye for design.
